Ingredients
2 chicken breasts (approx. 300-350 g)
2 garlic cloves (finely chopped)
1 small onion (finely chopped)
1 egg
4 tbsp all-purpose flour
2 tbsp cornstarch (or potato starch)
2 tbsp light soy sauce
2 tsp sesame oil
2 tbsp white sesame seeds
1 tbsp soy sauce (for marinade)
1 tbsp honey or maple syrup
1/2 tsp chili powder (optional)
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 tsp salt
Vegetable oil for frying
2-3 tbsp fresh chives (chopped)
Instructions
Prepare the Chicken
Cut the chicken breasts into thin strips or bite-sized pieces, depending on your preference. Place them in a bowl.
Marinate the Chicken
In the bowl with the chicken, add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 teaspoon of sesame oil, chopped garlic, onion, salt, pepper, and chili powder (if using). Mix everything thoroughly, cover the bowl, and let the chicken marinate for 15-30 minutes.
Prepare the Batter
In a separate bowl, beat the egg lightly. Add the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil. Mix everything until smooth and thick. If the batter is too thick, add a bit of water to reach the right consistency. Finally, stir in the sesame seeds.
Fry the Chicken
Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan or wok over medium heat. Dip each piece of chicken into the batter, ensuring it’s well coated, and fry in the hot oil until golden and crispy (about 4-5 minutes on each side). Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan, allowing the chicken to cook evenly.
Prepare the Sauce
In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, honey or maple syrup, and a little water. For extra heat, you can add a pinch of chili powder. Stir well.
