Ingredients

For the meat

500g ground meat (beef, pork, chicken, or a mix)

1 onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 teaspoons chili powder (adjust to taste)

2 teaspoons sweet paprika

2 teaspoons cumin

Salt and pepper to taste

Cooking oil

 

For the salsa

2 tomatoes, diced

1 red bell pepper, diced

1/2 onion, finely chopped

3 tablespoons chopped cilantro (optional)

Juice of 2 limes

Salt and pepper to tast

 

Additional ingredients

9-12 wheat or corn tortillas

1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Lettuce or spinach leaves

Sour cream or plain yogurt

Guacamole (optional)

Salsa (optional)

Lime slices for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat a small amount of cooking oil in a pan and sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic for about 2-3 minutes until they become soft and translucent.
  2. Add the ground meat to the pan and cook it over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the meat is fully cooked and broken into small pieces.
  3. Add the spices: chili powder, sweet paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper. Stir and cook for a few more minutes until the spices are well incorporated.
  4. In the meantime, prepare the salsa. In a bowl, mix diced tomatoes, red bell pepper, chopped onion, cilantro, lime juice, salt, and pepper. Set it aside.
  5. Heat the tortillas in a dry pan or microwave until they become warm and pliable.
  6. On each tortilla, spoon the meat mixture, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese, and add lettuce or spinach leaves.
  7. Drizzle the tacos with the prepared tomato salsa.
  8. Optionally, add a dollop of guacamole and salsa to each taco.
  9. Fold the tacos in half and serve with a side of sour cream or plain yogurt. You can also garnish with lime slices.
